Road Work Alert

Dear Homeowners and Residents,

Due to the break in weather, construction crews will be installing the speed hump in the entrance lane of the Main gate starting this Friday, September 1st, and continuing thru Sunday, September 3rd.  The entrance will remain open, however, all entering vehicles will be directed to cross over the new turnaround (limestone road base) in front of the guardhouse and continue to Beau Chene Drive on temporary two-way lanes on the Exit side.

Entering vehicles will only be allowed to turn right onto Beau Chene Drive.  This route will not accommodate 18-wheelers or other oversized semi-trucks. The route will be marked with cones, directional signs and flagmen.

Please drive cautiously through the construction zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Contact the BCHOA office at 985-231-6285 or via e-mail at cristinad@bchoa.org with any questions or concerns.

Back to School – Traffic and Safety Reminders

August is back to school month for children residing in Beau Chene. The school buses are back running through the community and the children are out waiting to be picked up or dropped off at their bus stops. This is a great time to remind everyone of traffic and safety concerns.  Our speed limit throughout the entire community is 25 MPH for vehicles.  School buses are in the community to pick up children from 6:00AM to 8:30AM and drop-off between the hours of 2:45PM and 4:45PM. It is never acceptable to pass a stopped school bus in either direction on our roads!  Please drive with care and follow all posted traffic signs.

Although our streets are private within Beau Chene, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs Department has the legal authority to enforce speed limits, stop sign and yield sign violations, parking violations, driver’s license violations and other violations of parish motor vehicle laws. This authority goes back to a 1979 ordinance passed by the St. Tammany Parish Police Jury at the request of the BCHOA Board of Directors and updated in 2002 by an ordinance passed by the St. Tammany Parish Council.

The Sheriff’s Office sends patrols, including patrols from the Traffic Division, into Beau Chene on a regular basis. In addition, BCHOA pays for extra Sheriff Deputy Details on Friday and Saturday evenings and we are continuing the extra paid deputy details a couple of mornings per week during select weeks when schools are in session.  These extra patrols are here to help remind all of us to drive with care.

BCHOA Joins The Beau Chene Oak Tree Project

We are very pleased to join The Beau Chene Oak Tree Project, started by the Beau Chene Garden Club, by identifying qualifying southern live oak trees growing on BCHOA property and registering them with The Live Oak Society. The BCHOA has a total of eight (8) live oak trees that qualify, having a girth of at least 8 feet.  Three (3) of the live oak trees have a girth of at least 16 feet and qualify to be registered as Centenarian Trees.

Four of the BCHOA live oak trees, including the 3 Centenarian trees, are located along Plantation Drive. Two of the BCHOA live oak trees are located at the Main entrance, one in the middle of the median and the other on the property adjacent to the exit side.  Of the remaining 2 trees, one is in the median of Marina Blvd. and the other is in the median of N. Beau Chene Dr.

We held a “Name the Oak Contest” to involve our residents in selecting the names for the two live oak trees at the Main entrance. The name that received the highest votes was “The Tranquility Oak”.  This name has been given to the tree in the middle of the median.  The name that received the second highest number of votes is “The Sentinel Oak”.  This name has been given to the tree on the exit side of the Main entrance.  Both trees are identified with blue ribbon.

Two of the Centenarian trees along Plantation Drive were selected to each be named in honor of individuals that have contributed greatly to our association. “The Dave Vinson Oak” is located at the bend of the road on Plantation Dr. and has a girth of 17 feet.  “The Bill Maier Oak” is located west of the Plantation Dr. circle and has a girth of 16 feet 10 inches.  Dave has been working for the association and the developer, Morgan Earnest, since 1977.  He is currently the Director of Public Works and oversees all work with the water and wastewater systems, drainage, swale and road maintenance.  Bill Maier has been at Beau Chene since 1985.  Bill coordinates all Environmental Control Committee (ECC) activities, oversees enforcement of HOA rules and regulations, oversees security services and garbage & trash services for the BCHOA.

Join us in celebrating the prestigious recognition of our trees’ membership in The Live Oak Society!

Hurricane Preparedness Tips for Residents

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1, 2017, and will end on November 30, 2017. According to The Weather Company, an IBM business, the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season is forecast to be less active than a year ago with the number of named storms and hurricanes near historical averages. A total of 12 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes are expected this season. No matter what the forecast says, this is a good time to start your preparations.

Beau Chene Homeowners Association has several forms of communication in place in the event that we are impacted directly by a hurricane. The Beau Chêne Homeowners Association website is www.bchoa.org.  Messages and updates will be posted to the site when access is available and on our member only Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/BeauCheneHOA/ and our public Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BeauCheneCommunity/

The Beau Chêne Homeowners Association hotline phone number is 1- (314)–272-0288. Please make note of this hotline phone number.  This is a message only hotline to keep residents – especially evacuated residents – informed of conditions in Beau Chêne and is only active during storm events.  Please refrain from leaving messages when calling this number.

Be prepared should a hurricane evacuation be ordered by the Parish. Make sure your car is ready in the event of a possible evacuation. Make sure to map out a route before you get on the road to your destination. To be informed of current conditions in the Parish please visit their website at: http://www.stpgov.org/departments/homeland-security-emergency-preparedness

To: Beau Chene Water System Customers

As part of Beau Chene’s Public Works Operation and Maintenance program, water system operators will be flushing fire hydrants beginning May 1st and continuing through May 12th, as necessary. This operation will be conducted at night between the hours of 11:30p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The purpose of flushing the fire hydrants is to remove loose mineral deposits from the water system distribution pipes. Flushing operations are performed on a bi-annual basis, normally early in the year and then again immediately before the local fire district conducts required hydrant flow tests for firefighting and insurance rating purposes.

If as a result of either our hydrant flushing or fire district flow testing, you experience mineral deposits in your water, please open your outdoor faucet where water enters the house, and run water slowly until it is clear. Then slowly run your indoor faucets until your system is clear. Problems with deposits should be minimal as Beau Chene’s potable water system has been treated to sequester these naturally occurring well water minerals since 1996.

Very truly yours,

David Vinson
Public Works Director
