Due to the break in weather, construction crews will be installing the speed hump in the entrance lane of the Main gate starting this Friday, September 1st, and continuing thru Sunday, September 3^rd.  The entrance will remain open, however, all entering vehicles will be directed to cross over the new turnaround (limestone road base) in front of the guardhouse and continue to Beau Chene Drive on temporary two-way lanes on the Exit side.

Entering vehicles will only be allowed to turn right onto Beau Chene Drive.  This route will not accommodate 18-wheelers or other oversized semi-trucks. The route will be marked with cones, directional signs and flagmen.

• Status of the Main Gate Entrance Reconstruction
  The wet conditions have delayed our project a few weeks but construction is continuing at the Main entrance.  Remaining work scope includes the installation of copper roofing, construction of speed hump on entrance side of guardhouse and road paving.  We are estimating the completion date at the end of September or early October.  Please be on the lookout for future messages regarding lane closure dates.
• Road Repaving Program for 2017
  This year we have budgeted for the resumption of our road overlay program expected to start in late September.  Our road overlay program allows for a 10-12-year replacement schedule and even longer with the addition of an asphalt crack sealing program.  This year’s project includes streets that were last overlaid in 2002.  In addition, the streets designated as part of our walking paths will be stripped to include two 10 ft. vehicular/bicycle shared lanes and one 4 ft. designated pedestrian walking path.  Crosswalks will also be stripped at major intersections to connect the walking paths.
• Beau Chene Homeowners Association (BCHOA) Annual Meeting Minutes Are Now Available
  The meeting minutes from the May 17th Annual Meeting are now available on our member access website.  Our website has a member login tab that provides members secure access to their homeowners billing, personal information, and community information.  To get logged in go to our website at  www.bchoa.org and click the tab “login” in the upper right corner on the home page.  You will be prompted for an ID# and password to gain access.  The ID# is your Homeowner member number (five or six digits).  This member ID# is printed on the payment coupon books for member dues and can be obtained from the BCHOA office at 985-231-6285.  If you experience any difficulty in logging into your secure member access site please call the BCHOA office at 985-231-6285 and ask for Myrna or Misty.

August is back to school month for children residing in Beau Chene. The school buses are back running through the community and the children are out waiting to be picked up or dropped off at their bus stops. This is a great time to remind everyone of traffic and safety concerns.  Our speed limit throughout the entire community is 25 MPH for vehicles.  School buses are in the community to pick up children from 6:00AM to 8:30AM and drop-off between the hours of 2:45PM and 4:45PM. It is never acceptable to pass a stopped school bus in either direction on our roads!  Please drive with care and follow all posted traffic signs.

Although our streets are private within Beau Chene, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs Department has the legal authority to enforce speed limits, stop sign and yield sign violations, parking violations, driver’s license violations and other violations of parish motor vehicle laws. This authority goes back to a 1979 ordinance passed by the St. Tammany Parish Police Jury at the request of the BCHOA Board of Directors and updated in 2002 by an ordinance passed by the St. Tammany Parish Council.

The Sheriff’s Office sends patrols, including patrols from the Traffic Division, into Beau Chene on a regular basis. In addition, BCHOA pays for extra Sheriff Deputy Details on Friday and Saturday evenings and we are continuing the extra paid deputy details a couple of mornings per week during select weeks when schools are in session.  These extra patrols are here to help remind all of us to drive with care.

Every year, immediately following the Annual Meeting and election process, the BCHOA Board meets to determine officers, committee chairs and committee members as necessary. At the most recent organizational meeting, June 9^th, the Board elected officers for 2017-2018 as follows:  Paul Angelle, President; Doug Tate, Vice President; Jay Capouch, Treasurer; and Jay Whealdon, Secretary.

In addition to the eleven-member Board of Directors, BCHOA has seven (7) standing committees providing the association with a cross-section of experience and knowledge. The committees serve as an excellent training ground for future Board members and contribute continuity to the decision-making process.  Functioning committees enhance their members’ sense of belonging, while providing the board with specific recommendations and expertise.

Construction crews will be installing the speed hump device in both exit lanes of the Main gate starting early Monday, August 7th, and continuing thru early Wednesday, August 9th, weather permitting.

The entrance will remain open to all entering vehicles, however, both exit lanes will be closed to vehicular traffic.  Exiting vehicles will need to use either the East gate or Marina gate during this road construction.

Please drive cautiously through the construction zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.  BCHOA appreciates your patience.

To: Beau Chene Water System Customers

As part of Beau Chene’s Public Works Operation and Maintenance program, water system operators will be flushing fire hydrants beginning May 1st and continuing through May 12th, as necessary. This operation will be conducted at night between the hours of 11:30p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The purpose of flushing the fire hydrants is to remove loose mineral deposits from the water system distribution pipes. Flushing operations are performed on a bi-annual basis, normally early in the year and then again immediately before the local fire district conducts required hydrant flow tests for firefighting and insurance rating purposes.

If as a result of either our hydrant flushing or fire district flow testing, you experience mineral deposits in your water, please open your outdoor faucet where water enters the house, and run water slowly until it is clear. Then slowly run your indoor faucets until your system is clear. Problems with deposits should be minimal as Beau Chene’s potable water system has been treated to sequester these naturally occurring well water minerals since 1996.
