New Pedestrian Designated Paths and Roadway Markings

A Letter From Cristina Donovan

In recent magazine articles, emails and social media posts, I have communicated an overriding goal developed from our Re-Image Master Plan to improve upon the safety, security, and social aspects of the community. To build upon the natural and manmade resources to provide safer walkability and recreational opportunities for residents, we implemented street re-designs in late 2017 as approved by the Board of Directors. The street re-design includes pedestrian walking paths and crosswalks around a central loop and secondary access paths.

Improved safety features include:

  • reduced width of vehicular/bike lanes from 12’ to 10’ (historically shown to reduce vehicular speeds)
  • 4-foot-wide designated walking paths marked with a solid white line and white on white raised reflective pavement markers
  • Crosswalks at all major intersections within the walking path loops
  • Vehicular stop bars at all major intersections within the walking path loops
  • Repainting of all speed humps throughout subdivision
  • Bicycle markings indicating lane sharing with vehicles
  • Pedestrian markings on the designated walking paths

The photos display some of the new markings mentioned above that are found on our re-designed streets. The bicycle symbol with the double directional arrow is the standard marking for a shared bike and vehicular lane traveling in the same direction. The marked crosswalks provide designated crossings for pedestrians to transition from one side of the street to the other. The new stop bars are placed within a few feet of the stop signs to signal the vehicular drivers where to stop.

I have received very positive feedback from residents about various aspects of the street re-design. Drivers of motor vehicles, on average, are slowing down and more aware of both the bikers and pedestrians. We have many miles of roadway within Beau Chene (a total of 17 miles) for bikers and pedestrians to explore and we hope the designated pedestrian walking paths on the re-designed streets will encourage more social interaction and promote healthier and more active lifestyles for our residents.

Dear Homeowners and Residents,

Our 2017 scheduled road overlay project will commence Wednesday, October 25th.  This process will involve milling the existing asphalt (the removal of 1.5 inches of existing roadway pavement) and relaying a 1.5-inch layer of asphalt.

The milling will start at the corner of N. Beau Chene and Tete L’Ours on Wednesday, Oct. 25th, and continue around the country club onto Beau Chene Drive towards the Main entrance.

On Thursday, October 26th, the milling will be performed on Beau Chene Blvd. (Main Entrance).  There will be intermittent entrance and exit lane closures with one-way traffic only throughout Thursday.  The entering lanes will be shut down for a period of time allowing ONLY exiting traffic then the exit lanes will be shut down allowing ONLY entering traffic during this process on Thursday.

After the Main entrance is milled, the milling will continue down Beau Chene Drive to 832 Beau Chene Dr. on the marina side of the subdivision.

On Tuesday, October 31st, the Main entrance lanes will have a new layer of asphalt applied. Again, there will be intermittent entrance and exit lane closures with one-way traffic only throughout Tuesday, October 31st.

The Main entrance will remain open throughout this process but expect lane closures with one-way traffic, short delays and rerouting traffic to other entrances. If possible, use the East and Marina entrances on Thursday, Oct. 26th and Tuesday, Oct. 31st.

Weather permitting, the estimated completion of the milling and asphalt work is Friday, November 3rd, with speed humps, painting and road stripping to follow.

Please drive cautiously and obey the directions of flagmen directing traffic. Please contact the BCHOA office at 985-231-6285 or via e-mail at cristinad@bchoa.org with any questions.

Main Gate Traffic Delays Wednesday Oct. 11

Dear Homeowners and Residents,

Today, Wednesday, October 11, 2017, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm The Earnest Corp.’s contractor will be pouring concrete for the new driveway going into Beau Chene Office Park I.

We do not anticipate any major interruption with traffic flow entering or exiting the subdivision.  However, there might be minor delays entering the subdivision while the cement is being poured.  Residents might want to use another gate to enter to avoid any delays.  Please contact the BCHOA office at 985-231-6285 with any questions.
