BCHOA Joins The Beau Chene Oak Tree Project

We are very pleased to join The Beau Chene Oak Tree Project, started by the Beau Chene Garden Club, by identifying qualifying southern live oak trees growing on BCHOA property and registering them with The Live Oak Society. The BCHOA has a total of eight (8) live oak trees that qualify, having a girth of at least 8 feet.  Three (3) of the live oak trees have a girth of at least 16 feet and qualify to be registered as Centenarian Trees.

Four of the BCHOA live oak trees, including the 3 Centenarian trees, are located along Plantation Drive. Two of the BCHOA live oak trees are located at the Main entrance, one in the middle of the median and the other on the property adjacent to the exit side.  Of the remaining 2 trees, one is in the median of Marina Blvd. and the other is in the median of N. Beau Chene Dr.

We held a “Name the Oak Contest” to involve our residents in selecting the names for the two live oak trees at the Main entrance. The name that received the highest votes was “The Tranquility Oak”.  This name has been given to the tree in the middle of the median.  The name that received the second highest number of votes is “The Sentinel Oak”.  This name has been given to the tree on the exit side of the Main entrance.  Both trees are identified with blue ribbon.

Two of the Centenarian trees along Plantation Drive were selected to each be named in honor of individuals that have contributed greatly to our association. “The Dave Vinson Oak” is located at the bend of the road on Plantation Dr. and has a girth of 17 feet.  “The Bill Maier Oak” is located west of the Plantation Dr. circle and has a girth of 16 feet 10 inches.  Dave has been working for the association and the developer, Morgan Earnest, since 1977.  He is currently the Director of Public Works and oversees all work with the water and wastewater systems, drainage, swale and road maintenance.  Bill Maier has been at Beau Chene since 1985.  Bill coordinates all Environmental Control Committee (ECC) activities, oversees enforcement of HOA rules and regulations, oversees security services and garbage & trash services for the BCHOA.

Join us in celebrating the prestigious recognition of our trees’ membership in The Live Oak Society!
